Hong Kong odds and Implied Probability Explained
Here are the basics of Hong Kong odds and implied probabilities.
Hong Kong Odds
Hong Kong odds are used in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia. Valid HK odds must be a number greater than 0.
You can calculate your potential profit by multiplying Hong Kong odds by your bet amount. A $10 bet at 0.5 HK odds will profit $5 if your side wins, and a $10 bet at 1.5 will profit $15.
- Hong Kong odds greater than 1 are underdogs, with larger odds having a lower implied probability. HK odds of 1.1 have a 47.62% implied probability, and 3.0 has a 25% implied probability.
- Hong Kong odds less than 1 are favorites. The lower the HK odds, the bigger the favorite. HK odds of 0.9 have a 52.63% implied probability, and 0.3333 has an implied probability of 75%.
- Hong Kong odds of 1 have a 50% implied probability.
Implied Probability
While sportsbooks don't typically express their odds in implied probabilities, all common odds formats can be converted to an implied probability. An implied probability is the percentage of times you'd need to win a bet (if you could bet it an infinite number of times) for that bet to breakeven.
For example, if your odds convert to an implied probability of 60%, your bet theoretically needs to win 60% of the time to breakeven. If it wins more than 60%, it'd be a profitable bet.
Keep in mind that sportsbooks add vig ("juice", "house edge", "tax", "fees", etc.) to their odds, meaning the implied probabilities of all outcomes for a scenario will have implied probabilities totaling greater than 100%.
